The Day | New Italian Spot on East Sixth

Good morning, East Village.

According to a tipster, signage for an “Italian restaurant bar,” Litro, has gone up in the old Zerza space at 308 East Sixth Street. Stay tuned for more.

Paper reports that Max Fish is opening an outpost on the Asbury Park boardwalk. “Max Fish at the Beach Bar, located on the boardwalk, will be open weekends starting this Saturday through Memorial Day, and then open every day after that.”

In The Times, Winnie Varghese, the priest in charge of St. Mark’s Church-in-the-Bowery, argues that churches should be tax-exempt. “Moderate and progressive religion is overwhelmingly formed in the U.S., and it is an essential voice in national and international discourse,” she says. “We are an important moral and ethical voice for society as a whole, a voice that has to be religious to respond to other kinds of religious movements.” Read more…


No Fur Allowed at Revision Lounge

Leave your mink scarf at home when you head out to Revision Lounge on Avenue B: the owner doesn’t allow any animal fur inside his bar. DNAInfo reports that doormen check the authenticity of patrons’ pelts and have infuriated a few of them in the process. Johnny Barounis, a vegetarian who also owns bars in the Lower East Side and Upper East Side with the same policy, said that “the fur thing is basically what I can do to help change some behavior.”


New Raw Food Cafe Offers Vegan Burgers, And Soon Colonics

The East Village lost a raw food store when Jubb’s Longevity shuttered in 2008; more recently, it lost a vegetarian spot when Counter closed. Now, two doors down from the former Jubb’s, another raw food spot (this one a Los Angeles transplant) has opened its doors. Euphoria Loves Rawvolution soft opened at 504 East 12th Street last Thursday. Its grand opening is today, and in two weeks it will begin offering a weekly cleanse that can be supplemented with “emotional shamanic journeys” and colonics.
