Arts Beat has the latest on the lineup of bands scheduled to play the inaugural CBGB Festival July 4 weekend, including War on Drugs, a stable of New York bands and plenty of throwbacks like MxPx.
Local venues like Otto’s Shrunken Head, Lit Lounge, The Bowery Electric, Local 269, Webster Hall and Joe’s Pub are among the 30 that will host shows in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
The Local has also discovered that the Upright Citizens Brigade will curate a series of “rock and roll comedy and improv shows” at the UCB East Theater. A new documentary, “The Rise and Fall of the Clash,” will premiere during the film portion of the festival.
Passes for the musical acts are $69 to $89. A pass for all events (except for a high-end liquor party) is $299 to $499.
The latest lineup of films, which will be screened at Landmark Sunshine Cinema and the City Cinemas Village East, includes “24 Hour Party People,” “American Hardcore,” “Awesome; I Fuckin’ Shot That!,” “Blank City,” “Color Me Obsessed: A Film About The Replacements,” “The Dead Boys – Live at CBGB/OMFUG 1977,” “The Devil and Daniel Johnston,” “DIG!” “End of The Century,” “Exit Through The Gift Shop,” “Gimme Some Truth: The Making of John Lennon’s Imagine Album,””Hit so Hard,” “Hype!” “I Am Trying to Break Your Heart,””Just Around The Corner,” “Kurt Cobain About a Son,” “Let Fury Have The Hour” “New York Doll,” “The Other F Word,” “Patti Smith: Dream of Life,” “Punk’s Not Dead,” “The Rise and Fall of The Clash,” “Rock ‘N’ Roll Exposed: The Photography of Bob Gruen,” “The Sacred Triangle: Bowie, Iggy & Lou 1971-1973,” “Sid & Nancy,” “Suicide Girls Must Die!,” “What Did You Expect: The Archers of Loaf Live at Cat’s Cradle,” and a selection of untitled Andy Warhol screen-tests.
