New York City is a place where nothing seems to be without life. Lately, I have been interested in the impressions that all of the moving objects in the city leave behind. By playing with time lapse and panoramas, I hope that I can share a bit of the shadows that we leave behind in the space we occupy.
I stitch the photos together using apps, and then crop them into horizon shots. On occasion, I leave the original photo frames. The frames in this shot reinforce the direction of movement, so they were retained.
Courts and playgrounds are one of the few places that people circle each other at high speeds. There is a physical documentation of time when you spot the same person’s shadow several times in one shot.
Static figures really give a foundation to the people that are coming and going around them. Compositions that show a variety of people on different schedules are always my favorite for that reason.
