On 14th St., A Perilous Intersection

It probably came as little surprise to East Villagers that the neighborhood is home to two of the city’s most perilous intersections, including Third Avenue and East 14th Street tied for the fifth most dangerous intersection in Manhattan. The Local visits the intersection to speak with those who live and work there.


At Giano, A Real Love of Food

James Traub visits Giano. “Since there are approximately as many Italian restaurants in New York as there are New Yorkers,” Mr. Traub writes, “it takes a serious effort to stand out.” Giano’s effort? Missing Teen Found

Alexander Vorlicky, 14, who had been reported missing from his East 10th Street home, has been found according to reports. The teen is said to be unharmed, but no further information on the circumstances surrounding his disappearance has been made available. — The Local


Despite Stimulus, Problems at LES II

Residents at Lower East Side II, a public housing project, complain of poorly maintained facilities and a pervasive smell of sewage. Money from the federal stimulus was directed to the project for roof repairs but did not solve the problems, according to residents and housing activists.
